Dare County Shoreline Management Commission

Mission Statement

Mission Statement

The Dare County Shoreline Management Commission is established to:
" Oversee and Advocate the Preservation of and
Restoration of the Shorelines of Dare County."

Priorities

The following priorities were adopted by the Commission at the regular meeting on June 21, 2005.

1.     Stay the course on the federal project for the Northern Dare Beaches.
Permits are in place for the project.  The local share of construction funding will be covered by room tax
funds and property assessments.  Funding for renourishment cycles is projected to be fully funded by
       room tax revenues.

          2.     Investigate construction of some portion of Corps project with federal, state, and local funds.

          3.     Look at methods, strategies, and other alternatives of shoreline protection for all of the shorelines
of Dare County and not just the project areas included in the Corps authorized project.

          4.     Research the concept of regional sand management.
