Typical Construction Profile
-
The typical profile calls for a wide flat beach. (The
illustration below is not to scale. The actual beach will be
much flatter that it appears in the illustration. See photos
below.)
-
The slope on the frontal edge of the dune feature and the
frontal edge of the beach will mirror the natural slope of the
existing frontal edge of the beach (1/10).
-
The Corps refers to the wide flat portion of the beach as the
berm
-
The profile incorporates a dune feature which is slightly
elevated. To put the dune elevation into perspective, the
elevation on Hwy 12 varies but is generally between 9 and 11 ft
elevation. The elevation of the dune at its crest will be 13 ft,
well below the typical elevation of existing dune crests. Dune
crest elevations in typical locations are in the 18 to 22 ft
elevation range. Even in areas where there are no dunes,
because of the deposit of overwash sand, the elevation of the
land on the oceanfront tends to be higher than elevations on Hwy
12 leaving a very small height differential, if any, between
existing land elevation and dune crest elevation as illustrated
below.
